Ideal for water sports
Endless space, a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, a unique nature reserve and a mild climate with more than 2,000 hours of sunshine a year - all this awaits visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Region of Lake Neusiedl.
As the westernmost steppe lake,Lake Neusiedl is an exotic among European waters and at the same time Austria's largest natural swimming pool, covering an area of 320 km² of water and reeds. So large that one could almost think that water and sky touch each other at that distant line in the vast space. This is also due to the curvature of the earth, which is so strong that you cannot see from one end to the other.
Lake Neusiedl is very suitable forsailing and surfing because of the good wind and especially for young people because of the shallow water depth of maximum 1.8 metres. Another very positive aspect is that the lake warms up quickly due to its shallow depth - this is very pleasant for the budding surfers when they fall into the water. The sailing and surfing season starts here in April and ends in October. Lake Neusiedl is located in the windiest area of Austria - of course there is no guarantee of wind - but good wind conditions can be expected - mostly north-west and south winds.
