Lake Neusiedl - at any time of year

With its endless expanse and the many windy and sunny days, Lake Neusiedl is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts.

As the westernmost steppe lake,Lake Neusiedl is an exotic among European waters and also the largest natural swimming pool in Austria, covering an area of 320 square kilometres of water and reed beds. It is so large that you could almost think that water and sky are touching at that distant line in the vast expanse of space. The curvature of the earth also contributes to this, which is so strong that you cannot see from one end to the other.

Lake Neusiedlis an ideal spot for sailing and surfing thanks to the good wind and, for young people in particular, the shallow water depth of no more than 1.8 metres. Another very positive aspect is that the lake warms up quickly due to its shallow depth - this is very pleasant for the budding surfers when they fall into the water. The sailing and surfing season starts here in April and ends in October. Lake Neusiedl is located in the windiest area in Austria - good wind conditions can be expected - mostly with north-westerly or southerly winds.
