Experience the freedom of sailing and get your licence! We will successfully guide you to the BFA Binnen (formerly A licence). Master challenging manoeuvres and discover the Neusiedler See. Course description
This course is the crucial next step in your sailing career. In line with our motto "Learning by Sailing", the focus is on practice, mastering challenging manoeuvres and acquiring in-depth background knowledge (law, weather, safety, boating, etc.).
With the BFA-Binnen you can hire sailing boats of various sizes on inland waterways, lay the foundation for your sailing training and have a licence to take part in regattas.
Prerequisites
The following is required for participation in the BFA Binnen programme:
- Sailing knowledge: sound basic knowledge (equivalent to the basic licence holder: independently making the boat ready to sail, casting off, tacking, mooring). Recommendation: if necessary, book a re-entry day in advance
- Age requirement for admission to the BFA-Binnen examination: 13 years (licence issued from the age of 14)
- Safe swimming skills.
Scope and price
Boat hire until the end of the season with BFA-Binnen Plus
After completing the course, you can hire our boats free of charge until the end of the season. Take advantage of this offer to deepen your newly acquired knowledge or simply for relaxed sailing trips with friends and family.
Price
BFA Binnen course fee: € 420,-
BFA Binnen Plus course fee: including boat hire until the end of the season - € 535,-
Minimum number of participants: 4 people - if there are fewer participants, the courses will be shortened.
The course fee includes boat hire during the course, lifejacket and oilskin.
Additional costs - optional:
Theory examination fee: € 15
Practical examination fee: € 20,-
Issue fee (since 8 October 2012): € 30 (the issue takes approx. 6 weeks) - we will apply to the ÖSV for the issue of the licence for you, you do not have to worry about it

BFA-Binnen App Learnautik: € 20,- for our guests (instead of € 25,-) - please request by mail

Take along
There is no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes!
What you should have with you:
- Comfortable and sporty clothing,
- Spare clothes,
- Shoes with non-slip soles that can get wet (old trainers, sneakers,... - flip flops are not suitable),
- Rainwear (if available),
- sun protection
- 2 passport photos

Weekly course
from 6 July 2026 every week during the summer holidays up to and including 4 September 2026
Course times: Monday to Thursday
09:30 - 12:30 and 14:00 - 16:00, followed by theory until approx. 18:00 on three days (Friday free practice and then exam)
Minimum number of participants 4 persons, otherwise the course times will be shortened
